August in Lisbon. The studio windows go white by noon and long and gold by six, and the brick holds the heat until well after dark.
On the 22nd the room is open to men.
Most men reach forty with three photographs of themselves. A passport. Someone else's wedding, standing slightly out of frame.

He was in all of them. He was never the subject of any of them.
Why do men book portrait sessions?
Men book portrait sessions for the same reasons anyone does, mostly because nobody has ever photographed them properly and they have quietly wanted it for years. What stops them is that the category barely exists in most men's heads, so there was never an obvious moment to start.
The men who come to Umbra tend to arrive with a reason they don't say out loud. Training that finally shows. Ink that deserves better than a phone camera. Grey coming in. A body that has been through something and came out the other side looking like itself. Or nothing that specific, just the sense of never once having been looked at properly.
You don't need to be in shape. You don't need to know what to do with your hands. That part is the photographer's job.
What happens during a session?
Each sitting is 45 minutes of camera time, shot in editorial black and white with hard light and high contrast, the work Umbra is known for. Most SUBJECT sessions are portraits, clothed or partly clothed, and where a concept calls for it the work extends to artistic nude in the same editorial register.
The concept is agreed on the consultation call rather than improvised in the room. Sienna directs throughout, so you are never left standing there working out what to do with yourself, and you can change direction or stop at any point.
For 45 minutes the camera has one subject and nothing else is happening in the room.
The studio is private, and your images stay yours. Nothing is published or shared anywhere without your written permission.
How does booking work?
Booking starts with a free 15 minute consultation call/Text/email, and a €50 deposit secures your sitting. The deposit is refundable up to 3 days before 22 August.
1 • Free consultation call Fifteen minutes. What you want from the images, the concept, what to bring. Phone, video, or WhatsApp messages if you would rather type. No commitment at this stage.
2 • Secure your sitting A €50 deposit confirms your place. Sittings are confirmed in the order deposits come in. The €100 balance is due 3 days before the shoot.
3 • The sitting 22 August at Lx Factory. 45 minutes of camera time. Full guidance the whole way through.
4 • Your images 15 retouched images in a private gallery within two weeks, yours to keep. 20 for Shame LESS members. Albums, prints and wall art are shown after your gallery, never before.
How much does a men's portrait session cost in Lisbon?
A SUBJECT session is €150 for 45 minutes and 15 retouched images.
Shame LESS members receive 20 images at the same price.
Six sittings are available. Albums, prints and wall art are priced separately and discussed after you've seen your gallery, never before.
